Solar On The Land: Bringing Power To Remote Locations

Client: Fort Chipewyan Metis Nation (FCMN)
Location: Fort Chipewyan, Alberta
Project Overview
Members of Fort Chipewyan Metis Nation (FCMN) spend a significant amount of time at remote cabins across the Peace Athabasca Delta throughout the year as a home base for hunting and fishing and to reconnect with the land. Electricity at these cabins is provided by gasoline generators that are noisy and create toxic fumes and require the transportation of fuel which can be a dangerous endeavour. FCMN wanted to replace the gasoline generators with solar PV systems to provide a sustainable source of power.
Greenplanet worked with FCMN to design customized off-grid, independent, solar PV systems for remote cabins across the delta, and to construct these locally. These systems replace gasoline generators with quiet, clean, reliable energy.
