MARY MCGRATH
Chief Executive Officer

Mary brings a diverse range of experience to Greenplanet’s team to advance our capacity to design, develop, deliver high quality education programming that strengthens community energy and economic development projects. She lends her organizational development experience to make strategic connections and build relationships with stakeholders and investors.

She shares 25 years of program design/delivery and non-profit management in the sustainability and education sectors. This includes leading the development of programs that combine education and environmental issues in Canada at the local, provincial and national levels, as well as in the Caribbean and West Africa.

Mary’s strategic planning and project management experience ranges from leading employee engagement programming within Unilever’s Environmental and Corporate Affairs department to designing provincial citizen science programming at EcoSpark and national educational programming with Environmental Defence Canada and GreenLearning. She has used her entrepreneurial skills to lead several of these organizations through exceptional periods of growth as Executive Director and co-founded and was Executive Director of Canada’s first crowd-funding platform – Small Change Fund.

Mary has developed broad networks through her participation on a number of boards and grant making committees, including currently as a director of the Greenbelt Foundation, and has received awards including the Toronto Vital People Award and the Women in Social Entrepreneurship Award. She has a Double Honours Specialist degree in International Development and Environmental Studies, and fulfilled the requirements for a Masters of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.
